Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe Clarifies Allegations of Budget Allocation Discrepancies

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing the Abia South Senatorial District, has responded to claims made by Senator Agom Jarigbe regarding budget allocations to ranking senators. Jarigbe alleged that senior ranking senators received N500 million each from the 2024 budget, while he received nothing.

Addressing the issue on Arise Television, Abaribe refuted the claims, stating that he only received N266 million, contrary to the alleged N500 million. He criticized Senator Abdul Ningi for making unverified claims about budget padding, emphasizing the importance of evidence in such matters.

Abaribe explained the distribution of funds under the Zonal Intervention Project, also known as constituency project funds. He clarified that each zone receives N10 billion, with the allocation varying based on the number of states in the zone. As a senator from the Southeast, which has five states, Abaribe received N266 million, while senators from zones with more states received less due to the larger population.

He emphasized that not all constituencies receive equal funding, highlighting the disparities based on the number of states in each zone. Abaribe stressed the need for accountability and transparency in the allocation and utilization of constituency project funds, urging constituents to hold their representatives accountable.
