All you need to know about the Secret Five Love Languages and their meaning (Part two)

A review of: The secrets to the love that lasts

by Dr. Gary Chapman

This is the conclusion of last week’s post, where I wrote about Love Languages and the different types.

Here are some quick tips to help figure out your love language:

– Examine your childhood

Try to remember how your parents expressed their love towards you.

What type of things made you feel loved?  That may have translated to how you now express and receive it.

– What’s your first instinct when you want to show someone that you love them?  Trust your instinct.

– How have you been deeply hurt in the past?  What hurts the most?  That can shed light on what your love language is.

Now that you know your love language, think about these love languages from your partner's perspective.

Can you identify their love language? You ask them to take the quiz instead of assuming.

Everyone is different and many of us don't realize that we speak different love languages.  Another example – let’s say your love language is acts of service, and you take out the trash as a loving gesture.. depending on their love language, your partner may not see it that way.  What we think is an act of love may not be seen that way by your wife/husband/SO.  So we must learn and understand their love language if we want to make them feel loved.

The goal is to speak your partner's love language and fill up their love tank,  like the gas tank in your car, you want to fill it up and keep it full. When your tank is full, our lives run at their best, or you can run on fumes, and eventually, you will burn out.

The secrets to the love that lasts is a simple, but very powerful book.

The first thing you need to do is find out your partner's love language. Do not assume what it is.

Then, commit to doing something special each week. something that ties into their primary love language.

“If your relationship is already running on fumes, then it may take a while for their love tank to get full, but keep at it and over time, you will reap the rewards.”

All you need to know about the Secret Five Love Languages and their meaning

This is a summary of,

The secrets to the love that lasts

by Dr Gary Chapman

Ever been in a relationship where it seems like the maximum effort you put to please your partner does not seem to be enough?

Where no matter what you do, they keep feeling frustrated and unloved.

This could be so frustrating, but the reason they are feeling unloved is simply because you are not speaking their LOVE LANGUAGE.

The premise of the book by Dr Gary Chapman is that people don’t  give and receive Love the same way.

Most of us think the way we want to be loved is how others want to be loved. But this is not the case as there are five love languages.

Love languages are so important and You need to know how you and your Partner both give and receive love.

The five love languages are:

Words of affirmation

"You looked nice today'’, “I love you”, "Thanks for putting the kids to bed" are some examples of verbal expressions of care and affection.

If these words are so dear to you then Words of Affirmations is your love language.

People who have these love language also tend to detest Insults.

Quality Time

As important as quality time and undivided attention are in a relationship, some people tend to cherish it more than others- people whose love language is quality time will feel that even more keenly, and crave time where both people are present without distraction.

If this is the love language of your partner then try to always be available, try to listen to their problems, cancelled or postponed dates also hurt, as well as being distracted or distant.

Receiving gifts

To this type, its the thoughts that counts-  its not about the value of the gift.

They see Gifts as a sign of love and thought, no matter how Tangible and intangible the items might look, it makes them feel appreciated or noticed.

If your partner falls under this category then, the absence of everyday gestures or missing a special occasion is particularly hurtful and could harm them.

Acts Of service

Doing something helpful or kind for your partner. Like  Waking up with the baby in the middle of the night or doing the chores around the house or errands that ease the burden of responsibility are the loving characteristics of this love language.

If your partner favors acts of service try not to break commitments, being lazy can also make feel unloved.

Physical touch

Physical expressions of love, whether sexual or more platonic, such as holding hands, a back scratch, a hug, a kiss, or sex.

The absence of such can leave these individuals feeling isolated in a relationship.

Do you love hugs, holding hands, and thoughtful touches the most?  Is there physical presence crucial to you?

Any kind of neglect or abuse would destroy this type of person

Gary Chapman said in his book that “the key to a lasting relationship is learning love languages”. Try to know these love languages, and figure out the one that stands out for you and your partner.

You can like every type of love language, but you need to figure out the one that stands out for you.

You can take a quiz to know your love language at: https://www.5lovelanguages.com/ to help discover yours, or your partner's in case you're having a tough time figuring it out.

Six Gift ideas for valentine that will sweep your lover off their feet.

Valentine is around the corner.

A day Lovers go all out to express Love for their significant others, but thinking of a romantic gesture to make could be exasperating; it should not be.

A Gesture or Gift does not have to be grand or expensive, it is usually the thought that counts.

If you need help with Valentine's Gift ideas, here are Six gift ideas your partner would love.

  • A Spa session

A spa date is perfect and there is no better way to say I love you more than a couple of hours of peace.
It is sweet, and getting away from the stress of work, and the hustle of the city would be relaxing.

  • A Surprise Dinner Date

No one says no to dinner, and we are  sure your partner wouldn’t either.

Get him or her to dress up for a surprise night out at their favourite restaurant or a new one you’ve both been wanting to try out.

  • A “Love Note Jar”

A love note jar is a beautifully decorated Jar where you write little pieces of cute messages about what you love about your partner, they can just open it and read it when they are feeling down.

Remember to be detailed; the smallest details matter, from the smell of her shampoo to how cute he looks while thinking or sleeping, or how she nibbles on every bite of food thoughtfully before swallowing.

Whatever it is you think makes them extraordinary should be included in the Jar.

  • A Gift Box

One interesting detail about gift boxes is that you can always personalise them. When creating a gift box for your partner, make sure to include at least one of everything they like if you can.

Rather than opt for the bulk curated boxes, go the extra mile to personalise your boxes to match

your partner’s likes.

They would appreciate a more personalised gift instead of a regular box with drinks and chocolates.

  •  Get them Something they want

One of the best feelings I have had is getting something I was planning to buy myself.

Your partner must have told you something they are looking forward to getting. It could be as little as a new bed sheet, a watch, etc.

Giving them something on their bucket list is awesome.

It also shows how much attention you pay.

  • Make A Short video

Make a short video expressing how you feel about them telling them why you love them.

An example is “ top 10 reasons why I love you”

They would really appreciate this and watch it a thousand times.

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful season of love; whatever gift ideas you choose, remember it’s the thought that counts and your partner would surely love it.
