See routes motorists can ply as President Buhari visits Lagos
Lagos State is expected to host President Buhari as he visits the state to commission some projects.
President Buhari is expected to commission the newly built International terminal of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos. Which is one of five being built in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Enugu.
He is also expected to commission the Dangote Fertiliser plant.
This visit would mean there would be some diversion of traffic as announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde.
The commissioner has also provided alternative routes for motorists.
Oladeinde stated that motorists from Apapa/Oshodi would be able to ply Agege Motor Road to link PWD connecting Works Road or General Adeyinka Adebayo Road to access Oba Akinjobi inward Ikeja General Hospital and then connect Local Airport through the underpass.
Motorists on Agege Motor Road were also advised to link Charity by the Armed Resettlement Centre on the service lanes and make a U-turn at Cappa/Bolade axis inwards Shogunle to access PWD to continue their journey.
He also stated that Maryland/Mobolaji Bank Anthony would be open to motorists to link the Local Airport and access Muritala Muhammed Airport.
The Commissioner added that motorists can go through the Third Mainland Bridge inwards Gbagada to connect Ikorodu/Maryland to reach the Airports as an alternate route.
People would be trekking from Lagos to Ibadan if I hadn't intervened - Buhari
President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has claimed that without his intervention, Nigerians would have still been trekking from Lagos to Ibadan.
The President while speaking on Tuesday, February 22 at the presidential villa while receiving a delegation from Kaduna state, said that by making infrastructure projects his priority, particularly the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and rail line, he has helped reduce hardship
Buhari said;
“My objective was very clear, despite the dwindling resources, I wanted to deal with infrastructure across the country.
We should look at advancement in terms of Infrastructure. No country can advance without infrastructure.
“The people from south-west can tell better because between Lagos and Ibadan by now, if we hadn’t done what we did, people would have been trekking because the road was not there, the rail was not there and there was so much insecurity.
“But we thank the international community. We thank China and Chinese investors, who came along to support the Lagos-Ibadan transport projects.”
Tems, Bimbo Ademoye, and Tayo Aina win big at The Future Awards Africa
Actress Bimbo Ademoye, singer Tems, and YouTuber Tayo Aina have won big at the 16th edition of The Future Awards Africa, TFAA, 2022.
TFAA is an annual award made to celebrate challengers and builders between the ages of 18 and 31 for their outstanding achievements for the year.
According to the organizers, the awards are to celebrate trailblazers who have defied the status quo and redefined the norm for their various fields within the past year.
This year's event was hosted by dynamic Nancy Isime.
Making the list of this year nominees was the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, Tundra Onakoya; Social media influencer and popular EndSARS campaigner, Rinu Oduala.

Blessing Okagbare Reacts To 10-Year Ban Over Doping
Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare has reacted to the 10-year-ban over doping violations by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
The sprinter was expelled from the Tokyo Olympics last year before the women’s 100m semi-finals after testing positive for human growth hormone and on Friday, February 18, the AIU announced its decision to place her on a 10-year ban after she was found guilty.
It added that this “egregious conduct” led to an increase in the normal four-year sanction.
Blessing, who denied all charges, was given a five-year ban( for returning doping tests positive for EPO as well as Human Growth Hormone) and another five-year ban (for refusing to cooperate with an AIU investigation).
“We welcome the decision of the Disciplinary Tribunal. A ban of 10 years is a strong message against intentional and coordinated attempts to cheat at the very highest level of our sport,” said AIU chief Brett Clothier.
Brett Clothier added;
This is an outcome that was driven by our intelligence-led target testing as well as our commitment to investigate the circumstances behind a positive test.
The 33-year-old has reacted to the ban on her Instagram. She said her lawyers are studying it for their next line of action.
She wrote;
“My attention has been drawn to the statement issued by the AIU regarding its disciplinary panel decision. My lawyers are currently studying it for our next line of action which we will inform you soon.”
78 youths arrested by Hisbah over alleged acts of immorality.
Kano State's Hisbah Board has arrested 78 youths at a party over alleged acts of immorality and indecent dressing during a birthday party.
It was gathered that the youths were arrested during a raid at an event center called ‘White House’ in the Nassarawa GRA area of Kano.
The Director-General, Kano Hisbah Command, Harun Ibn Sina told reporters that the youths were not arrested for conducting same-sex marriage as being reported.
“When we received the report, we went there and could not establish a fact that they were holding same-sex marriage but we caught them in a highly immoral situation both the males and females,” the Hisbah commander said.
He also said all those arrested are currently under the custody of the command at the time of filing this report.
Man sets himself ablaze during Protest
An unidentified commercial bus driver died after setting himself ablaze on Tuesday, February 15. His death happened while was protesting the seizure of his vehicle by operatives of the task force from the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
The driver was driving along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road area connecting Ajao Estate when his and some other shuttles were compounded by the taskforce team.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver was furious that his vehicle had been seized. He then reached out for a keg of fuel and poured it on himself, and then set himself ablaze.
He was later confirmed dead.
CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the spokesperson of the state police command, confirmed the incident and said the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, had ordered an investigation into the incident.
“The information we got was that there was resistance when task force from the ministry of transportation went for enforcement.
No policeman set any vehicle ablaze; policemen attached to the Ajao Estate Police Division were not involved in what happened. However, the Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation into the incident.” he said
Jay Jay Okocha reacts to Amuneke's appointment.
Former Nigerian footballer, Jay-Jay Okocha, has shared his thoughts on the appointment of Emmanuel Amuneke, as the new Super Eagles assistant coach.
Okocha believes it is a step in the right direction and the move is important for the development of the Super Eagles. He has also tipped Anuneke to add value to the national team.
Amuneke was named the Chief Coach on the 10th of February 2022 and Augustine Eguavoen’s first assistant, while Salisu Yusuf was named Second Assistant Chief Coach of the Super Eagle.
Joseph Yobo is the Third Assistant, while Aloysius Agu is the Goalkeepers’ Trainer.
“Amuneke’s coming to Eagles coaching crew is a good addition. We all know how qualified he is and the value he’s bringing to the team,” said Okocha.
“He was successful in Tanzania and his inclusion is a positive one for Nigeria. It shows our intentions in getting things right ahead of the playoffs.”
Tension among Students and Parents as they wait ASUU's decision
All eyes are on The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as the country waits to find out if they will embark on a fresh strike or not.
Since Saturday, the Members of ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) have been locked in marathon meetings at the University Of Lagos, Akoka.
They were expected to have the final lap of the meeting by midnight Monday. They promised to address a press conference on Monday (today) to announce the resolutions of the two-day meeting titled, ‘NEC for NEC.’
The anxiety among university students and parents last night over the fear of a union strike was pertinent as they expect the union to likely go on with the strike.
While the sensitization was ongoing, the co-chairmen of the National Inter-religious Council; President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Dr. Samson Ayokunle; and the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar III, visited the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over the lack of implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding the government signed with ASUU in 2009 and others.
But ASUU national president, Prof. Emmanuel Oshodeke, and other leaders across the campuses insisted that the Federal Government could not be trusted following its consistent refusal to implement the Memorandum of Action it signed with the union, leading to the suspension of the 2020 strike action.
Students and Parents await the decision from ASUU, but it seems it would happen sooner than later.
D’Tigress defeat France to keep world cup dreams alive
Nigeria’s senior female basketball team, D’Tigress has defeated World No. 5 France in a 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup qualifier.
The D’Tigress made a comeback to beat the 5th best team in the world, France, 67-65.
The Nigerian women lost the first quarter 11-28 but made amends quickly in the second quarter to win 16-10. This was the start of a comeback win.
Victoria Macaulay had the most points for Nigeria(19) as the team led in 2 and 3 pointers 51%-44% and 35%-32% respectively.
Nigeria now occupies the second spot on the table with 3 points and a -12 game points.
D'Tigress is to play Mali next in the last group stage fixture scheduled for Saturday, February 12, 2022. A win against Mali will automatically seal a spot for D'Tigress at the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup in Australia later this year.
Ycee reveals why he will be wicked to Women in 2022
This year, popular Nigerian Rapper, Ycee, has warned women of his plans to be wicked towards them.
The rapper said, “I am trying hard to be wicked but I love women so much. I am trying to be wicked to women this year because all the years of being a nice guy did not pay me. I was just suffering and smiling.”
During the question and answer session with his fans, Ycee also said he needs a child in his life. He said, “I need a child in my life and it is a bit tricky because I just said it’s ‘wickedness’ from here on. So, how am I planning to have kids?”
During the Q/A session, a fan asked him to advise the younger generation, Ycee said, “I am not really the advice guy. I feel like I give the worst advice. I am not really the one to be advising the next generation.”
Updates on the Growing issue of Fuel scarcity
From Monday till today, queues have been seen in filling stations in what looks like a growing scarcity of petroleum products.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority have confirmed some methanol quantities above Nigeria‘s specification in our petroleum, and while this issue is being rectified, oil marketers have been directed to ensure a sufficient supply of quality petrol throughout the country.
In its statement, The regulatory authority said, “Limited quantity of Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as Petrol, with methanol quantities above Nigeria’s specification was discovered in the supply chain.
“Methanol is a regular additive in Petrol and usually blended in an acceptable quantity.
To ensure vehicular and equipment safety, the limited quantity of the impacted product has been isolated and withdrawn from the market, including the loaded trucks in transit.
“Our technical team in conjunction with NNPC Ltd and other industry stakeholders will continue to monitor and ensure quality petroleum products are adequately supplied and distributed nationwide.
“The source supplier has been identified and further commercial and appropriate actions shall be taken by the Authority and NNPC Ltd.
NNPC Ltd and all Oil Marketing Companies have been directed to sustain sufficient distribution of Petrol in all retail outlets nationwide.
“Meanwhile, NNPC has intensified efforts at increasing the supply of Petrol into the market in order to bridge any unforeseen supply gap.”
Some reports have also surfaced claiming some private depot owners are hoarding the commodity as they awaited subsidy removal.
“Why Nigeria will shake in 2023”- Governor Wike explains
Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, has claimed the country will “shake” after decisions about the 2023 general elections would be taken by the South.
Governor Wike also made it clear that his party, PDP , will only give its presidential ticket to a candidate who has the interest of Nigerians at heart.
Wike spoke at a grand reception organized for him by the people of Kalabari ethnic nationality, held at the Abalama School field in Asari Toru Local Government Area, Rivers state.
Kelvin Ebiri, his Special Assistant on Media, said in a statement that Wike made it crystal clear that political leaders in the south will soon come out with their decision concerning the country’s number one position.
Wike said: “The day the south will speak, Nigeria will shake. We believe in the unity of this country, but nobody can threaten us. Nobody should threaten us. We believe in the unity of Nigeria and unity of Nigeria must continue.”
He added, “No amount of gang-up can make PDP give somebody who will want to run an election for the interest of some big men, and not for all Nigerians.
Anybody who wants to be the candidate of PDP must be a candidate for the interest of Nigerians.”
