Dangote Reclaims Title as Africa's Richest Person, Overtaking Johann Rupert

 



Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has reclaimed his title as the richest person in Africa, surpassing South African magnate Johann Rupert, according to Forbes and Bloomberg. 

Dangote's net worth increased by $10 billion to $10.1 billion as of January 8, 2024, while Rupert's net worth decreased from $10.7 billion to $10 billion. 

Dangote holds the majority of his wealth through his 86 percent stake in publicly traded Dangote Cement and also has interests in Dangote Sugar, NASCON Allied Industries, and United Bank for Africa, among others. He is now ranked 191st on the Forbes list, while Rupert is ranked 197th globally.
