France's President Macron Appoints 34-Year-Old Gabriel Attal as Prime Minister

French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Gabriel Attal, the popular 34-year-old education minister, as the new prime minister in an effort to rejuvenate his second term amid a fractured parliament.

The Élysée Palace confirmed the surprising choice, making Attal the youngest-ever French prime minister and the first openly gay one.

Macron hopes Attal's charisma will help overcome challenges, including a lack of parliamentary majority, and bridge the polling gap with Marine Le Pen's far-right party for upcoming European elections.

However, critics argue that Macron's main problem lies in lacking a parliamentary majority to push through his reform agenda. The outgoing prime minister, Élisabeth Borne, resigned on Monday, paving the way for Attal's appointment.
