Gas Explosion Razes 18 Shops in Lagos, Nigeria

An explosion occurred on Agbado Road, Toyin Bus Stop, Iju Ishaga, Lagos, around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, resulting in the destruction of 18 shops.

According to a statement from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire outbreak was caused by the off-loading of six 75-50(kg) gas cylinders from a stationary mini truck to a gas shop. The incident led to explosions from one of the compromised cylinder head caps, triggering a fire.

"The ensuing fire spread to the other side of the street with the aid of one of the gas cylinders that traveled over, affecting 18 shops and their contents, along with the mini truck," the statement read.

Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported, as the fire has been successfully contained.
