Abuja Kidnappings: FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Claims Some Cases Are Staged

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has suggested that some kidnapping incidents in Abuja are staged, pointing to internal arrangements made by individuals such as housekeepers or drivers to plot kidnappings within their employers' households. Wike made these remarks during a briefing with senators, where he, along with FCT Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh, discussed security measures to protect FCT residents.

Wike assured the lawmakers of improved security and increased infrastructure development in the FCT. He highlighted ongoing construction projects in the city and recent administrative reforms, such as the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the appointment of Permanent Secretaries, as evidence of progress.

Regarding security, Wike claimed that two of the most wanted kidnappers in Abuja have been apprehended, leading to a decrease in kidnapping incidents. Despite these developments, Wike acknowledged that complete eradication of criminal activities is impossible, but emphasized that the FCT administration is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
