Man Arrested for Attempted Rape of Pregnant Neighbour's Wife in Ogun State

A 26-year-old man, identified as Usman Bube, was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape his pregnant neighbour’s wife in the Ogatalo Fulani Camp in the Imala area of Ogun State. According to PUNCH Metro, the suspect allegedly broke into his neighbour’s apartment around 12:45 pm on Thursday to commit the crime. The husband of the survivor, Muhammed Awwalu, had reportedly travelled out of the community, leaving his pregnant wife alone in the apartment.

Upon discovering that Awwalu had left town, the suspect forcibly entered the apartment, where he found the pregnant woman sleeping. Despite several attempts to engage in unlawful sexual intercourse with her, the suspect was unsuccessful. He then allegedly drew out a knife in an attempt to silence and subdue her. The pregnant woman screamed for help, and the suspect reportedly inflicted a cut on her left hand before neighbours could rush to her rescue.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Odutola Omolola, confirmed the incident in a WhatsApp chat with our correspondent on Thursday. She stated that Bube had been placed in protective custody, while the survivor had been taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Odutola said, “We have arrested the suspect. He will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department as soon as the preliminary investigation is completed. In the meantime, the pregnant woman has been taken to a hospital for treatment as a result of the cut on her hand.”

This incident comes after the command arrested one Godstime Ekanemin on September 28, 2023, for allegedly breaking into the matrimonial home of a married woman, Mrs Jelila Oyinbo, and attempting to rape her. Oyinbo had reportedly been sexually harassed by the suspect despite repeated warnings to leave her alone, as she was a married woman. The incident occurred in the Mowe/Ofada area of the Obafemi/Owode local government of the state.
