Premier League Footballers Arrested After Rape Allegation

Two Premier League footballers have been arrested after a rape was reported to the police, according to Mail Online. The two unnamed footballers, both 19 years old and from the same club, were arrested over the weekend.

One player was reportedly spoken to by police on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape at the club stadium. He was later formally arrested after leaving the grounds and detained overnight for questioning under caution. The other player was arrested the following day on suspicion of rape.

Both players have since been released on bail pending further inquiries. The alleged rape took place on a Friday night, with the victim contacting the police and filing a formal complaint hours later.

A police spokesperson confirmed the arrests, stating that a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape, while a second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have been released on police bail.

The football club involved stated that they would not be making further comments as the matter is now in the hands of the police.

This incident is not the first time the Premier League has been involved in a police investigation over an alleged rape. Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, 22, was charged with attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior in October 2022. The case against him was later dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew. Greenwood has denied all allegations against him and was subsequently sent out on loan to Spanish club Getafe after an internal club investigation.
