Keefe D's attorneys had requested his release from custody last week, seeking release on his own recognizance or, if denied, bail set at a maximum of $100,000 before his trial scheduled for June. However, prosecutors strongly opposed the request, deeming it absurd and providing multiple reasons for him to remain in custody until trial.
Prosecutors argued that Keefe D is a former high-ranking member of the South Side Compton Crips and has confessed multiple times to involvement in Tupac's murder over the years.
They further asserted that Keefe has posed credible threats to witnesses while incarcerated. Additionally, prosecutors presented evidence, including Keefe D's own statements, suggesting his orchestration of Tupac's murder in 1996, despite his current attempts to distance himself from those earlier claims.
The state is urging the court to keep Keefe D behind bars until his trial, citing ample grounds for doing so.
