Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of X, has accused Google of interfering to help Democrats during elections. His comments came in response to a report by the Media Research Center (MRC), a right-leaning watchdog, which alleged that Google boosts Democrats while censoring Republicans.
Musk quote-tweeted a screenshot of the article and claimed that the report "understates the magnitude of the problem." He stated that Google interferes to help Democrats "thousands of times every election season," attributing this to the political views of Google's censorship teams.
The MRC report detailed 41 alleged instances of "election interference" by Google since 2008, including incidents during the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden. The report accused Google of using its power to favor liberal candidates and censor their opponents.
Google has denied the allegations, calling them "baseless" and "inaccurate." A Google spokesperson stated that the company has safeguards in place to prevent bias and that numerous conservatives have been successful in using Google's platforms to spread their message.
The accusations from Musk and the MRC add to the ongoing debate about the influence of tech companies on elections and political discourse.
