The Kenya Police Service has reportedly arrested Nadeem Anjarwalla, a Binance executive who fled Nigeria after being detained for alleged tax evasion and other offenses. Anjarwalla escaped from custody in Abuja on March 22nd and was apprehended in Kenya.
According to government sources, Anjarwalla will be extradited to Nigeria this week by INTERPOL. The arrest follows a criminal charge filed against him and another executive, Tigran Gambaryan, before a Magistrate Court in Abuja.
The court had granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) an order to remand both executives for 14 days, which was later extended for an additional 14 days after Binance failed to comply with an order to provide data of Nigerian traders on its platform.
The Nigerian government also filed a four-count charge against Binance Holdings Limited, Anjarwalla, and Gambaryan, accusing them of offering taxable services to subscribers on their platform without registering with the Federal Inland Revenue Service and failing to issue invoices for value-added taxes, among other offenses.
Efforts are underway to expedite Anjarwalla's extradition to Nigeria, with the involvement of the EFCC, INTERPOL, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Kenyan Police Service.
