Must read! Is ulcer really caused by hunger or starvation?

Ulcer is one of the most common ailment of the body,it occurs

in the wall of the gastrointestinal tract thereby causing lots of pain and discomfort due to the irritation of the pain receptors in the wall of the GIT(GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT) basically the stomach and the duodenum.

The wall of the GIT  is made of four layers, but our emphasis will be on the first and second layers(coming from inside to outside),
The mucosa and submucosa layers and between them is the submucosa plexus which means a network of nerves and among this nerves are the pain receptors.

The function of this mucosa layer is important such that it helps to protect the wall of the GIT from digestive secretions by secreting mucous that lines it.

So ulcer will occur whenever there's either excess secretions that damage this layer or there's an infection(caused by H. Pyroli) that corroded this layer of the GIT,leaving the wall exposed to these strong secretions.

One of the most powerful secretions is HCL which has a pH of about 0.8 produced from the oxyintic or parietal cells of the stomach, its extreme low pH makes it easy to digest the mucous of the wall.

Like Gastric or stomach ulcer, duodenal ulcer can also occur due to the excess HCL in the duodenum which result from the inability of the pancreatic secretions to neutralise the potency of HCL and can also be as a result of gall stones.

Ulcer or ulceration of the wall,is not dependent of our eating habits or schedule.
