Dr. Dre Reveals Details About Health Scare

In a recent interview with James Corden, Dr. Dre opened up about his health scare in January 2021 when he was hospitalized for a brain aneurysm. The rapper and producer revealed that he endured three strokes during his hospitalization.

Dr. Dre recounted that he initially thought he could simply take a nap to alleviate his symptoms, but a friend of his son's insisted they go to the hospital. He was taken to urgent care, where he was informed of the seriousness of his condition. He later ended up in the ICU for two weeks, with doctors telling him how fortunate he was.

Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Dre expressed gratitude for being alive and highlighted the unpredictability of health issues, emphasizing that he had no prior knowledge of having high blood pressure. He stressed the importance of awareness, especially among Black men, regarding the risks of high blood pressure, which is often referred to as the "silent killer."

Strokes, which are a leading cause of death in the U.S., can cause brain damage, long-term disability, and death. According to the American Stroke Association, strokes and stroke deaths are higher among Black Americans than any other racial group in the U.S., with risk factors including high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and smoking.

Dr. Dre's experience serves as a reminder of the importance of health awareness and underscores the need for early detection and prevention of health issues, especially among vulnerable populations.
