Former Super Eagles Forward Tijani Babangida Involved in Fatal Car Accident


Tijani Babangida, a former Super Eagles forward and President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, was involved in a car accident on Thursday that tragically claimed the life of his younger brother, Ibrahim Babangida.


Babangida, who was part of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic team that won the gold medal, was reported to have been in the accident along the Kaduna-Zaria Road. His brother Ibrahim died on the spot, while Tijani and his family were taken to the hospital.


The incident was announced by Emmanuel Babayaro, the General Secretary of PFAN, in a statement calling for prayers for Babangida and his family.


“Comrades! Let us be in prayers for our president, Tijani Babangida, who just had a ghastly motor accident along the Kaduna-Zaria Road,” Babayaro said.


“May the soul of Ibrahim Babangida Rest In Peace with God, amen,” he added.


Tijani Babangida is known for his contributions to Nigerian football and his role in the Atlanta 1996 Olympics success. The football community is in mourning over the loss of Ibrahim Babangida and is offering support to Tijani and his family during this difficult time.
