VP Shettima Urges Governors to Prioritize Economic Empowerment

During the 140th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) held virtually, Vice-President Kashim Shettima emphasized the importance of the present period in Nigeria's public office. As chairman of the Council, he highlighted the administration's commitment to leaving a legacy of prosperity and opportunity for Nigerians.

Shettima urged governors to prioritize initiatives that offer Nigerians a means to earn a living with dignity, aligning with President Tinubu’s eight-point agenda.

He stated, "We must remain consistent in implementing initiatives that alleviate the suffering of our citizens and be accountable in doing so. We must also ensure that interventions we deploy are non-discriminatory and favor all stakeholders, with no part of our communities or nation left lagging."

The Vice-President emphasized the importance of empowering entrepreneurs and small business owners, which can lead to innovation, job creation, and economic growth. He highlighted the significance of providing access to financing, training, and mentorship programs to unleash the entrepreneurial spirit within every Nigerian.

Shettima stressed the need for inclusivity and equitable access to opportunities, stating, "This is the ladder we must offer to every disadvantaged citizen."

He concluded by acknowledging the challenging nature of the current period for public office holders, stating, "We have come at a time that tests the depth of our leadership and demands our most rational wisdom to make a difference."
