Meta Expands "Meta AI" Service to 12 Countries Outside the United States

Meta, the company behind Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, has extended its AI service, "Meta AI," to 12 countries outside the United States. These countries include Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Canada, Australia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and others.

The rollout, currently available in English, aims to enhance connections and provide users with new creative, expressive, and productivity tools directly within these popular apps.

Meta announced in a blog post on Thursday that since its initial unveiling at last year's Connect event, Meta AI has evolved into a multifaceted tool seamlessly integrated into users' daily lives.

Powered by Meta Llama 3 technology, Meta AI enables users to complete tasks, acquire knowledge, foster creativity, and build connections with ease.

The statement from Meta read, "We're introducing Meta AI in English to more than a dozen countries outside of the US. Now, people in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe will have access to Meta AI—and we're just getting started.

"Thanks to our latest advancements with Meta Llama 3, Meta AI is smarter, faster, and more enjoyable than ever before," the company stated.

Meta emphasized that its new AI is now the most intelligent AI assistant available for free, and it's accessible in more countries across their apps.

With Meta AI integrated into feeds, chats, searches, and more across their apps, users can accomplish tasks and access real-time information without leaving the app.

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, commented, "With the expansion of Meta AI in English to new countries, we are thrilled to introduce our next-generation assistant to even more people and tailor it to your needs by providing real-time information through our seamless search integration in the apps you know and love.

"We're enhancing Meta AI with our new cutting-edge Llama 3 AI model, which we're open-sourcing. We've also developed some unique creation features, such as the ability to animate photos.

"Meta AI produces high-quality images so quickly that it generates and updates them in real-time as you type. It also creates a playback video of your creation process."

The emergence of AI has been groundbreaking, with major companies like Meta, Microsoft, and Google launching various products. However, experts have raised significant concerns about AI, including lack of transparency, bias and discrimination, privacy issues, ethical dilemmas, security risks, concentration of power, and the long-term risks associated with the development of artificial general intelligence surpassing human intelligence.
