The police in Niger State have prohibited horse racing in Minna, the state capital, during the Eid el-Fitr celebration. The Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, announced this in a Sallah message signed by the command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun. The ban aims to prevent the horse racing event from being taken over by hoodlums who often attack people during such festivities. Abiodun stated that approximately 2,500 personnel, along with operational assets, have been deployed to ensure security coverage at all Eid grounds in the state's 25 local government areas, as well as at recreation centres, amusement parks, and other public places. He added that all police commanders have been instructed to deploy operational assets to maintain a presence in public areas, ensure visible policing with regular supervision, and conduct confidence-building patrols throughout the state for a peaceful celebration.
