Three individuals have tragically lost their lives in the Kabala Doki community of Kaduna State after reportedly ingesting expired medication. Two other youths are currently hospitalized for the same reason.
The expired drugs are believed to have been obtained from vehicles intercepted and auctioned by customs officials at the Kabala Doki Area Command. The victims, who had helped evacuate the vehicles, may have unknowingly taken the expired medication.
The deceased were identified as Abdulsalam Lawal, Muhammed Auwal Abubakar, and Ibrahim Kabiru. The ward head of Kabala Doki, Danlami Bawa, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, April 9, stating that the youths had stored the expired drugs for use during the Eid celebration, unaware of their expiration.
One victim, who passed away on Monday, April 8, admitted to taking the expired drugs and sharing them with others. However, the Public Relations Officer of the Customs Area Command of Kabala Doki, Muhammad Amin, clarified that the customs' role was limited to auctioning off vehicles, and they were not aware of how or where the youths acquired the expired drugs.
The Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansur Hassan, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the youths’ deaths.
