Patrick Mahomes Sr., a 51-year-old former professional baseball pitcher and father of Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, has been officially charged with felony driving while intoxicated (DWI) following his indictment by Texas prosecutors earlier this year.
Mahomes Sr. was arrested in Smith County, Texas, on February 3, just days before his son was set to play in Super Bowl LVIII. Authorities allege that during a routine traffic stop, Mahomes Sr. showed signs of being impaired and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. They also found an open, 16-ounce Coors beverage in his center console.
If convicted, Mahomes Sr. could face up to 10 years behind bars and a fine of up to $10,000. This is not his first DWI accusation, as he has faced similar charges twice before.
Despite the legal issues, Mahomes Sr. maintained a low profile, even when he traveled to Las Vegas to watch his son win the NFL championship against the San Francisco 49ers. Patrick Mahomes II briefly addressed his father's case, describing it as "a family matter" that he preferred to keep private.
