Draymond Green would find solace today if Shaquille O'Neal were in charge of NBA disciplinary actions. The Lakers icon expressed that, in his view, he would only impose a two-game suspension on DG if he had the authority over league punishments.
O'Neal conveyed this sentiment during a conversation with Babcock and Charles on "TMZ Live" on Thursday, less than 24 hours after Green received an indefinite suspension from Adam Silver. This penalty resulted from Green smacking Jusuf Nurkic in the head during a heated moment in the Warriors vs. Suns game.
Shaq contended that he believes Green harbored no ill intentions when his right arm made contact with Nurkic's face. He stated that he buys into Green's explanation, attributing the incident to an attempt to sell a foul rather than a deliberate act of aggression.
"I don't think Draymond said, 'Hey, I'm going to punch this guy just 'cause he's pulling my jersey,'" remarked Shaq.
The basketball legend went on to suggest that the play was more likely a failed flop attempt rather than a premeditated assault.
However, the NBA, led by Silver, holds a different perspective. They have sidelined Green from participating with the Golden State Warriors for an indefinite period. The league specified that Green, who had previously served a five-game suspension for an incident involving Rudy Gobert earlier in the year, "will be required to meet certain league and team conditions before" being allowed to rejoin the Warriors this season.
