Protester Sets Himself on Fire Outside Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC

An active member of the United States military set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, in an apparent act of protest against Israel's actions in Gaza. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The incident occurred on Sunday, Feb. 25, just before 1pm, when emergency responders received a call about a person on fire outside the embassy. By the time they arrived, the US Secret Service had already extinguished the fire.

Prior to the act, the man livestreamed himself on Twitch, wearing military fatigues and expressing his refusal to be complicit in what he described as genocide in Gaza. He then poured a liquid over himself and set himself on fire while shouting "Free Palestine!" The livestream has since been removed from Twitch.

Images of the protester during the act have circulated online. The Israeli embassy confirmed that none of its staff were injured and that all personnel are safe.

Local police are investigating the incident.
