Former Nigerian international player, Tijani Babangida, is optimistic about the Super Eagles showing an improved performance in their upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Ivory Coast on Thursday.
In their opening game on Sunday, January 14, Nigeria played to a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, while Ivory Coast secured a 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau in Group A.
Babangida, a former Ajax star, acknowledged that although Nigeria missed several opportunities, he emphasized the team's ability to create chances. He expressed joy in witnessing the Super Eagles' fighting spirit, highlighting their quick response with a goal within a minute of conceding against Equatorial Guinea.
In an interview with Brila FM on Monday, January 15, Babangida remarked, "That shows that the team can have a fighting spirit, and it’s the beginning of the competition. So, we are expecting them to do more and better in every game they play."
The former player's positive outlook reflects the belief in the Super Eagles' potential to perform at a higher level as the AFCON 2023 tournament progresses.
