President Tinubu Directs Settlement of State House Electricity Bill

President Bola Tinubu has instructed the prompt settlement of the outstanding electricity bill owed by the State House to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). This directive comes after a thorough reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.

A statement issued by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga clarified that the actual outstanding bill is N342,352,217.46, contrary to the AEDC's initial claim of N923 million debt as advertised in newspapers. The AEDC's management confirmed this revised amount in a letter to the State House Permanent Secretary dated February 14, 2024.

To ensure compliance, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has pledged that the debt will be settled before the week ends. He has also encouraged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to follow the example of the State House and promptly reconcile their accounts with AEDC, settling any outstanding electricity bills.
