President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead a presidential delegation to the finals of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d'Ivoire.
Vice President Shettima previously represented the President at the semi-finals, where the Super Eagles secured a victory against South Africa in an intense match on Wednesday, February 7. Nigeria's national team is scheduled to face the host, Côte d'Ivoire, in an eagerly anticipated rematch at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, February 11.
The upcoming match will evoke memories of Nigeria's 1-0 victory in the group stage, achieved through Captain William Troost-Ekong's penalty.
A statement from the media aide to VP Shettima, Staley Nkwocha, highlights the President's acknowledgment of football's unifying power and the significant role played by the Super Eagles in fostering national pride and unity. President Tinubu believes that Vice President Shettima's presence at the finals, accompanied by the delegation, underscores the government's steadfast support for the team and its commitment to their success.
