Cillian Murphy Makes History with Oscar Win for "Oppenheimer"



Cillian Murphy has become the first Irish-born winner of the Best Actor award at the Oscars, as "Oppenheimer" swept the ceremony, taking home several top honors.


The film dominated the evening, winning Best Picture and Best Director for Christopher Nolan, along with Murphy's win for Best Actor and a Best Supporting Actor win for Robert Downey Jr.


Murphy expressed being "overwhelmed" by the win and noted his pride in his Irish heritage. He thanked Nolan and producer Emma Thomas for the creative journey and dedicated the award to peacemakers around the world.


Downey Jr. humorously thanked his "terrible childhood" in his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor, acknowledging the transformative role the film played in his life. He also praised his wife, Susan Downey, for her support.


"Oppenheimer" won a total of seven awards, while "Poor Things" and "The Zone of Interest" took home four and two awards respectively. Emma Stone won Best Actress for her role in "Poor Things."
