Dan James' Goal Secures Leeds United's Victory over Stoke City

Leeds United claimed a crucial victory over Stoke City at Elland Road, with Dan James' first-half strike proving to be the difference between the two sides.

The win marked Leeds' 10th victory in 11 league matches, consolidating their position in the promotion race. Despite a spirited effort from Stoke City, who played with 10 men after Ben Pearson was sent off late in the game, Leeds held on for the win.

The victory was even more significant as second-placed Ipswich Town came from behind to beat Bristol City, keeping Leeds in third place in the Championship table, two points behind Ipswich and five behind leaders Leicester City.

Leeds dominated the game from the start and could have been awarded an early penalty when Dan James appeared to be fouled by Stoke goalkeeper Daniel Iversen. However, the referee waved play on.

The home side continued to press forward, and James eventually found the breakthrough after some good work with Georginio Rutter. James fired a shot into the far corner of the net, which took a slight deflection off a Stoke defender before finding the back of the net.

Stoke City improved in the second half and created some good chances, with Illan Meslier making some important saves for Leeds. However, they were unable to find an equalizer, and their hopes of a comeback were dashed when Pearson was sent off for a second yellow card.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke praised his team's performance, describing it as their best win in 2024. He highlighted the importance of grinding out a result in a game where there was an expectation for Leeds to win comfortably.

Stoke City head coach Steven Schumacher praised his team's resilience and character, despite the defeat. He expressed confidence that if his team continues to play in a similar manner, they will be able to turn their fortunes around.

Overall, it was a hard-fought victory for Leeds United, which keeps them firmly in the promotion race in the Championship.
