Judge Issues Gag Order Against Trump in Hush-Money Trial

A New York judge has issued a gag order against former President Donald Trump, prohibiting him from making public statements about witnesses, prosecutors, court staff, and jurors in his upcoming hush-money criminal trial. Judge Juan M. Merchan granted the prosecution's request for the gag order, citing Trump's previous comments about those involved in the case and the imminent trial date of April 15.

The prosecution had argued for the gag order, pointing to Trump's "long history of making public and inflammatory remarks" about people involved in his legal cases. The order also prevents Trump from directing others to make such statements but does not apply to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, as he is an elected official.

This gag order adds to restrictions already in place since Trump's arraignment last April, which prohibit him from using evidence in the case to attack witnesses.
