Late Drama Unseats Inter Milan: Coppa Italia Reign Ends with 2-1 Defeat to Bologna in Quarter-Finals

Inter Milan saw their grasp on the Coppa Italia slip away in the final minutes of extra time, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against Bologna. The match ended goalless in regular time, with Lautaro Martinez missing a penalty. In the 92nd minute, Carlos Augusto's header gave Inter the lead, but a late turnaround saw Sam Beukema and Dan Ndoye secure a dramatic victory for Bologna, marking the end of Inter's reign as back-to-back cup winners at the quarter-final stage for the first time since the 2018-19 season.

The encounter started cautiously, with Inter's Marko Arnautovic attempting a long-range shot in the sixth minute, which went wide. Bologna responded with Giovanni Fabbian hitting the post in the 18th minute. Despite Inter's efforts, including a penalty appeal by Davide Frattesi, the first half remained goalless.

After the break, Inter intensified their attacks, with Frattesi coming close in the 49th minute. However, Bologna's resilient defense kept Inter at bay. In the 65th minute, Martinez missed a penalty opportunity, failing to capitalize on a handball by Tommaso Corazza.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 92nd minute of extra time when Augusto scored from Federico Dimarco's corner. However, Bologna staged a comeback with Beukema equalizing in the 112th minute, and Ndoye securing the win in the 116th minute after a brilliant play by Joshua Zirkzee.

Despite Martinez's earlier misses, Inter couldn't recover, and Bologna emerged victorious, ending Inter's hopes of a third consecutive Coppa Italia title.
