Memphis Depay's Agent Denies Paying Dani Alves' Bail

Memphis Depay's agent has denied reports that the Atletico Madrid forward paid Dani Alves' €1 million (£850,000) bail to secure his release from prison. Alves, 40, had been held at Brians 2 Prison near Barcelona since January 2023 after being accused of raping a young woman in a nightclub bathroom on December 31, 2022.

Alves was found guilty of rape last month and was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison, which he appealed. His bail bond was set at €1 million, a figure initially thought to be challenging for him to raise due to reportedly having two empty bank accounts and one in the red. However, he managed to pay the fee on Monday and was released.

Despite claims on social media that Depay had paid the bail, his agent, Sebastien Ledure, has refuted the allegation, calling it "fake news" and "not true at all." Ledure requested an official correction of the claim, emphasizing its inaccuracy.

Depay and Alves briefly played together for Barcelona between November 2021 and July 2022. Alves returned to the club after a successful first spell at the Nou Camp, where he won six LaLiga titles and the Champions League three times. However, during their time together, they were unable to add any silverware to their collection.
