NLC Responds to Tinubu, Clarifies Protests Not Politically Motivated

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a response to President Bola Tinubu's recent comments, clarifying that their protests are not politically motivated but rather aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerian workers.

Tinubu had criticized the NLC's nationwide protest over the worsening hunger, suffering, and poverty in the country, suggesting that the union should focus on politics in 2027 if they wished. However, the NLC, through its President Joe Ajaero, emphasized that their protests are driven by the harsh realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Ajaero expressed concern over Tinubu's remarks, noting that they seemed out of touch with the struggles of Nigerians under current policies. He highlighted the urgent need for attention to issues such as hunger, unemployment, housing insecurity, and rising costs of basic necessities.

The NLC reiterated that their main goal is not political power but rather advocating for effective governance that prioritizes the welfare and security of all Nigerians. They urged Tinubu to focus on fulfilling this duty instead of engaging in political rhetoric.

The statement emphasized the importance of addressing critical issues like wage increases, social welfare programs, infrastructure development, and revitalization of key sectors such as education and healthcare. The NLC called for collective efforts to tackle these challenges and improve the lives of Nigerians.
