FCCPC to Review MultiChoice Cable Subscription Price Increases

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced plans to review the recent price increases in MultiChoice cable subscriptions. The aim is to ensure that subscribers in Nigeria receive value for their money.

Acting CEO of FCCPC, Adamu Abdullahi, disclosed this exclusively on Channels Television's Dateline Abuja program. He also provided updates on other regulatory activities, including the summons issued to the owner of a Chinese store in Abuja for discriminatory practices.

Abdullahi mentioned that sanctions are imminent for infractions identified by the agency, including those related to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.

MultiChoice, a leading satellite television service provider in Sub-Saharan Africa, recently announced price increases for its DSTV and GOtv packages. The company cited rising business operation costs as the reason for the increment.

The new prices are set to take effect on May 1, 2024. For instance, the Premium package on DSTV, previously priced at N29,500, will now cost N37,000. Similarly, the Compact Plus package, currently priced at N19,800, will be increased to N25,000."
