Footballers Plan to Publicly Come Out as Gay on International Day Against Homophobia

A group of top male footballers is reportedly planning to publicly declare their sexual orientation on May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia. According to German outlet Preussische Allgemeine Zeitung, these professionals from various clubs across the country are preparing to make this significant announcement.

While the clubs of the reported players are said to be aware of the planned declarations, some players are still hesitant and may reconsider revealing their homosexuality.

Marcus Urban, a former footballer in Germany who came out as gay in 2007, expressed support for the upcoming plans. Urban, now 52 and the co-founder of Diversero, a global community for diversity, believes that these players should be respected and celebrated for their decision. He emphasized that hate speech should not dictate one's life choices.

Urban sees May 17 as an opportunity for these players to come together and show solidarity. He highlighted the changing attitudes within the football community, suggesting that more individuals are questioning the need to hide their true selves.

Furthermore, Urban mentioned that there are gay couples in the Bundesliga who are also keeping their sexual orientation private. He believes that it would be liberating for them to come out and hopes that these developments will contribute to a more accepting and inclusive environment in football.
