Elon Musk Criticizes MacKenzie Scott's Philanthropy

Tesla founder Elon Musk has criticized MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos and a prominent philanthropist, over her donations to charities supporting women and minorities. Musk tweeted, "'Super rich ex-wives who hate their former spouse' should be listed among 'Reasons that Western Civilization died'."

Musk's tweet was in response to another user's complaint about Scott's donations, which focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues. This is not the first time Musk has criticized Scott's philanthropy. In 2022, he linked hostility toward his companies to "Mackenzie's donation to PACs posing as charities."

Musk's stance on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts has been controversial, and he has faced accusations of sexism over the years. In contrast, Scott's philanthropic efforts have been widely praised. Following her divorce from Bezos in 2019, she pledged to donate half of her nearly $37 billion settlement to charity. She has since given away over $16.5 billion to more than 1,900 nonprofits, according to her Yield Giving website.
