Inter Milan secured their 20th Serie A title after defeating AC Milan 2-1, creating an insurmountable lead at the top of the league with their sixth consecutive derby victory.
Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram scored the crucial goals for Inter, giving them a 17-point lead over second-placed Milan with five matches remaining in the season. This victory marked Simone Inzaghi's first league title as a manager.
Despite a late goal from Fikayo Tomori for Milan, Inter held on to seal the win and kick off their title celebrations. The victory also made Inter the second team in Italy to win 20 league titles, after Juventus.
Inzaghi's team dominated the league, leaving Napoli and Milan behind early in the campaign. Juventus initially posed a threat but faltered in February, allowing Inter to pull away.
While Inter's Champions League run ended in March, their domestic success was already assured. The club is also looking towards the future, with plans to renew contracts for key players like Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella. Additionally, smart transfers, including the arrivals of Piotr Zielinski and Medhi Taremi, are expected to strengthen the team further.
Off the pitch, Inter's President, Steven Zhang, is working to prevent investment fund Oaktree from taking control of the club. Zhang is seeking a loan from Pimco to repay Oaktree's emergency loan from 2021, ensuring Inter remains under their control.
