Ooni of Ife Disowns Alleged Son, Petitions Police Over Impersonation

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has disowned a man claiming to be his son and has taken legal action against him for impersonation.

In a viral video that surfaced earlier this week, the man, dressed in traditional attire and adorned with beads, asserted that he was the monarch's biological son. He even issued a 60-day ultimatum for the Ooni to acknowledge him as his son.

However, in response, the palace spokesperson, Moses Olafare, released a statement on Thursday, May 9, denouncing the man's claim. The statement clarified that the individual in the video is unknown to the palace and the people of Ile-Ife. It asserted that the Ooni knows and acknowledges all his children, both in Nigeria and abroad, and takes full responsibility for them.

The statement listed all the known children of the Ooni, including Princess Adeola Ogunwusi, who resides in Canada, Princess Adewamiwa Ogunwusi, who is studying in Ireland, Prince Tadenikawo Ogunwusi, who is with his mother, and the newborn twins, Prince Adebisi Kehinde and Princess Taiwo Adeayo, who are scheduled to be formally introduced into the palace soon.

The palace condemned the impersonation as sacrilegious and criminal, and called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter swiftly. It urged anyone with information about the impersonator to come forward.

The statement emphasized the palace's commitment to preserving the Yoruba cultural heritage and warned against any attempt to undermine it through fraudulent means.
