Andre Braugher, renowned for his roles in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Homicide: Life On The Street," passed away on Monday following a brief illness, as confirmed by his representative.
Best known for portraying Captain Raymond Holt in the comedic police series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," Braugher featured in all 153 episodes alongside Andy Samberg and Terry Crews. His co-star, Terry Crews, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, expressing the pain of Braugher's untimely departure and acknowledging the valuable lessons learned from him.
Braugher's breakthrough in Hollywood occurred in 1993 when he secured the role of Detective Frank Pembleton in the NBC drama "Homicide: Life on the Street," appearing in 100 episodes. He also played the role of used car salesman Owen Thoreau Jr. in the TV comedy-drama "Men of a Certain Age."
Throughout his distinguished television career, Braugher earned two Primetime Emmy Awards out of 11 nominations. His contributions extended to the big screen with roles in films such as "Frequency," "The Mist," and "City of Angels."
Born and raised in Chicago, Braugher graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts in theatre before pursuing further studies at the Julliard School's Drama Division. He is survived by his wife, actress Ami Brabson, whom he married in 1991, and their three children. Braugher passed away at the age of 61.
