Investigation Underway as Law Student Arrested for Alleged Rape

A second-year law student at the University of Ibadan (UI) has been apprehended by campus security for allegedly raping a first-year undergraduate. The incident was reported to the university authorities, who initiated an investigation into the matter.

The victim, who had been studying with other girls for an upcoming exam, moved from a lecture theatre to the Students’ Union building due to a power outage. It was there that the suspect allegedly assaulted her while she took a nap. The victim woke up to the attack, attempted to scream, but was subdued by the suspect, who fled when another student entered the scene.

The victim sustained injuries to her neck, lips (from a bite), and private parts. UI spokesperson, Joke Akinpelu, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect was in custody, and investigations were underway. The Dean of Students Affairs is actively involved in addressing the situation, and the university is awaiting the conclusion of the investigation to determine the accuracy of the allegations.
