How Trump Secured a Role in 'Home Alone: Lost in New York

Donald Trump's appearance in "Home Alone: Lost in New York" wasn't a testament to his acting skills; it turns out he leveraged his ownership of The Plaza Hotel to secure a role in the film. According to director Chris Columbus, Trump insisted on being cast in the movie as a condition for allowing the filming to take place at his hotel.

Columbus explained that, like many locations in New York City, they initially approached The Plaza for permission to shoot in the lobby. However, Trump, who owned the hotel at the time, set a condition: they could only use The Plaza if he had a role in the film. Despite paying the required fee, Trump's demand was clear.

Contrary to Columbus's initial expectations, Trump's on-screen presence had an unexpected impact. During the first screening, the audience cheered when Trump appeared on screen. Columbus, surprised by the positive reaction, decided to keep Trump in the movie, acknowledging that it became a memorable moment for the audience. Reflecting on the experience, Columbus noted that Trump managed to "bully his way into the movie."

This incident foreshadowed a pattern of behavior that would become characteristic of Trump in the years to come.
