Ivory Coast footballer Archange Defrignan Mondou has tragically passed away at the age of 19. Mondou, who played for Norway's top club HamKam in the Eliteserien, was found unresponsive at his flat in Hamar, 60 miles north of Oslo, on Tuesday, February 27.
Mondou, nicknamed Achilles, joined HamKam's second team in April last year, making three appearances and scoring one goal. He had moved from the Ivory Coast to Norway.
In a statement, HamKam expressed their sadness over Mondou's passing, saying, "It is with great sadness that HamKam Football has received the news that Achilles has passed away at the age of 19. He was found in his apartment. Our warmest thoughts are with his family and relatives. The cause of death is currently unknown."
HamKam's general manager Bent Svele also commented, calling it a "very difficult day for everyone affected."
Local police stated that there was nothing suspicious about Mondou's death, but the cause is unclear. An autopsy has been requested to determine the cause of death.
Mondou had previously taken time away from football last September after an incident in training, which led to a hospital stay after a medical assessment.
