kaduna Bombing: Death Toll Rises to 120, Amnesty International Confirms

The death toll resulting from the bombing of Muslims celebrating Maulud Nabbiy in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State, has tragically climbed to 120. Officials from Amnesty International, who surveyed the affected communities, confirmed the grim increase in casualties.

The incident occurred during an air strike aimed at flushing out terrorists on the night of December 3. Unfortunately, the strike accidentally targeted civilians who were partaking in a religious celebration. The Army claimed responsibility for the unintended attack.

Initially, on the night of December 4, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported a casualty figure of 85, with 66 victims sustaining injuries. However, providing an update on the dire situation, Isah Sanusi, the Country Director of Amnesty International, stated that their officials on the ground counted over 120 persons who lost their lives in the bombing.

"I can confirm to you that the current number of casualties in the affected areas is more than 120 persons," said Sanusi. He revealed that there were at least 77 bodies buried in each of the mass graves, emphasizing that the casualty figure exceeded NEMA's initial report.

Reports from witnesses at the mass burial scene indicated that there were a minimum of 77 dead bodies in each mass grave. Additionally, 17 individuals from adjoining villages lost their lives in the tragic incident. The aftermath has left the community devastated, with Amnesty International expressing deep concern over the escalating human toll and urging swift action and support for the affected families.
