Qatar-Based Businessman To Begin 2024 In Jail

 





Just hours before the start of the new year, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives intercepted a Qatar-based businessman, Agu Evidence Amobi, and another individual, Uchegbu Onyebuchi Obi, with shipments of psychoactive substances at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.


Amobi was apprehended on December 30th at the departure point of Terminal 2 of MMIA while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Doha, Qatar. Simultaneously, Obi was taken into custody after the seizure of a consignment containing 72,000 pills of tramadol 225mg, which he intended to ship to Kano on a domestic flight.


According to Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the anti-drug agency, Amobi, who claimed to have lived and worked in Doha for over 10 years, was found with 1.30kg of cannabis sativa concealed in a bag of foodstuff. He asserted that he bought the substance in Enugu to deliver to Doha, intending to raise funds for rent, school fees for his three children, both in Doha and Nigeria.


Additionally, NDLEA operatives at the domestic wing of the airport intercepted a carton containing 72,000 pills of tramadol 250mg with a gross weight of 38.50kg. Uchegbu Onyebuchi Obi was arrested for attempting to ship the consignment to Kano.


On December 25th in Yobe state, NDLEA officers patrolling along Nguru-Gashua road intercepted Musa Sani, Mohammed Ibrahim, and Adamu Usman in a truck carrying 39 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 15.7kg and 128,500 opioid pills.


Subsequent operations on December 26th led to the arrest of the actual owner of the cannabis consignment, Ali Ibrahim (a.k.a Ramos), in Geidam. An additional 208 blocks of the same substance were recovered from his house, totaling 247 blocks weighing 94.74kg. Mustapha Goni (a.k.a Lolo), the owner of the seized opioids, was also arrested.
