The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, has issued a reminder to residents about the prohibition of fireworks in the state.
In a post on his social media handle, Edafe urged Nigerians to adhere to the ban to avoid spending the New Year's crossover in police custody.
His message read:
"Today is New Year's Eve, and there is a likelihood that youths may be tempted to use fireworks and other explosive devices. Let's remember that it's prohibited, especially in Delta State, and individuals could face arrest for violating this regulation. It's crucial to note that the use of fireworks can provide cover for armed robbers and kidnappers to carry out criminal activities unnoticed. This is why the ban is in place for our safety. Our officers have been instructed to enforce this restriction, so let's not end up spending the crossover night behind bars. As for those seeking giveaways, consider this as my contribution."
