2024 Oscar Nominations: 'Oppenheimer' Leads with 13 Nods

The complete list of nominations for the 2024 Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, was unveiled today. Leading the pack is "Oppenheimer" with an impressive 13 nominations, closely followed by "Poor Things" with 11. The 96th annual Academy Awards follows a year marked by the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon of "Barbie" and the success of Christopher Nolan's epic World War II biopic, both drawing massive audiences worldwide and achieving significant box office success.

The announcement on Tuesday held some surprises, notably the absence of a Best Director nomination for Greta Gerwig for "Barbie." Gerwig, along with Noah Baumbach, received a nomination for the movie's adapted screenplay. Surprisingly, Margot Robbie, the star and producer of the Best Picture nominee "Barbie," did not secure an acting nod. Ryan Gosling, nominated for his role as Ken, expressed disappointment at the oversight. Leonardo DiCaprio, starring in "Killers of the Flower Moon," also missed out on an acting nomination this year.

On a positive note, Lily Gladstone, DiCaprio's co-star, made history by becoming the first Native American to be nominated for Best Actress. America Ferrera received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her performance in "Barbie" after being overlooked at the Golden Globes. Justine Triet became the eighth woman nominated for Best Director for "Anatomy of a Fall."
