The Abia State Ministry of Environment has officially prohibited the use of Styrofoam packs, commonly known as "take away."
The Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, announced the ban in a statement on Saturday, January 27, urging the public to cease using the packs until a thorough investigation is conducted on the potential health hazards associated with the product.
In a related development, Lagos State has extended the implementation of the ban on styrofoam and other disposable plastics by an additional three weeks.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the state's commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its residents over the financial gains derived from styrofoam production.
