Everton and Nottingham Forest Face Charges for Financial Violations

Everton and Nottingham Forest are facing charges for violating Premier League spending regulations. Earlier this season, Everton had already incurred a 10-point deduction for breaching financial fair play rules and is now being charged again alongside Nottingham Forest for their recent financial accounts.

Everton is reportedly displeased with the latest sanction and plans to appeal, similar to their response to the initial penalty. In a statement, the club expressed acknowledgment of the Premier League's decision to refer a breach of Profit & Sustainability rules for the assessment period up to the 2022/23 season. This period includes seasons 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021/22, and 2022/23, with the first three already subjected to a 10-point sanction, which the club is currently appealing.

The statement highlighted the absence of guidelines preventing a club from being sanctioned for breaches in financial periods already punished, pointing out a deficiency in the Premier League's rules compared to other governing bodies. Everton emphasized its commitment to defending its position during the ongoing appeal and any future commission, assuring fans that the impact on supporters will be considered in the process.

As for Nottingham Forest, they acknowledged the Premier League's charge and expressed their intention to fully cooperate for a speedy and fair resolution. The club explained their decision to sell a player, Johnson, for nearly £50m in August, arguing that it was better for their financial sustainability compared to a potential £30m deal with Brentford in June.

The Premier League charges stem from alleged breaches in Profitability and Sustainability Rules, and both clubs are set to navigate through the process to address the accusations.
