Cape Verde Celebrates, Mauritania Laments After AFCON Clash

The coaches of Cape Verde and Mauritania had differing emotions following Cape Verde's thrilling 1-0 triumph over Mauritania in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations last-16 clash on Monday. Cape Verde's coach Bubista expressed satisfaction with his team's performance and stressed their determination to forge ahead, acknowledging the presence of bigger teams.

He stated, "We are carving our path; we know there are many bigger teams than us, but we are trying to focus on our game to have the opportunity to face these African powerhouses."

Conversely, Mauritania's coach Amir Abdou was deeply disappointed, especially with the concession of a "ridiculous" late goal. Abdou lamented, "We are a bit disappointed to exit with this score, especially on an individual error like that.

We didn't deserve this." While expressing regret for missed opportunities, Abdou found pride in his team's overall performance in the AFCON, saying, "The team showed a good image in this AFCON; we must remain positive for the future."
