Child Amputations Surge in Gaza Conflict

More than 10 children on average have lost one or both of their legs daily in Gaza since October 7, with many amputations performed without anesthesia, a charity has reported.

Save the Children's director for the occupied Palestinian territory, Jason Lee, emphasized the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, stating that the suffering of children in this conflict is unimaginable and avoidable. UNICEF spokesperson James Elder previously mentioned that around 1,000 children had lost limbs since October 7.

The World Health Organization noted that many operations on children were conducted without anesthesia due to severe shortages in medical supplies and basic goods in Gaza. Save the Children calls for a definitive ceasefire to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid and medicines.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has maintained that it is not targeting civilians, while at least 22,835 Palestinians have been killed and 58,416 others injured in Gaza since October 7, according to the Hamas-run Palestinian Ministry of Health."
