Bafta Awards 2024: Oppenheimer Dominates, Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr Honored

Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, and director Christopher Nolan were honored for their work on "Oppenheimer" as the film dominated the Bafta Awards. Murphy won Best Actor for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, while Downey Jr. took home Best Supporting Actor. The film also won seven other Baftas, including Best Film.

"Oppenheimer" and its actors are now poised for potential success at the Oscars, although Bafta and Oscar voters often differ in their choices.

In a surprise appearance, Michael J. Fox announced "Oppenheimer" as the winner of Best Film, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. Murphy expressed his gratitude for the award, thanking Bafta and praising Nolan for his direction.

Downey Jr.'s win marked a record for the longest gap between Bafta victories, with 31 years passing since his last win for "Chaplin." He thanked Nolan for the opportunity to play Lewis Strauss in "Oppenheimer."

Emma Stone won Best Actress for "Poor Things," and Da'Vine Joy Randolph won Best Supporting Actress for "The Holdovers." "The Zone of Interest" won Best British Film, while "The Boy and the Heron" became the first Japanese production to win Best Animated Film.

Overall, the awards ceremony showcased a diverse range of films and talent, with Samantha Morton receiving the Bafta Fellowship and David Tennant hosting the event in a humorous and engaging manner.
