Darius Rucker Arrested on Drug Possession Charges in Tennessee

Singer-songwriter Darius Rucker recently turned himself in to Tennessee police almost a year after being pulled over for an expired tag on his car. The incident occurred on February 19, 2023, when Franklin police officers stopped Rucker, the frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, for the expired tags.

Police reported smelling marijuana from the vehicle and questioned Rucker about smoking that evening, to which he denied. However, he mentioned he might have smoked the day before. During a search of the car, officers found what they suspected was a THC pen and 14 unmarked purple pills. Rucker allegedly claimed the items were given to him by his girlfriend, Summer.

When a cop informed Rucker about the pat-down, he reportedly handed over a small marijuana blunt from his pocket. The police tested the 14 pills and identified them as psilocin, a schedule I controlled substance similar to psilocybin (magic mushrooms). Rucker was initially released without charges pending identification of the pills.

A warrant for Rucker's arrest was issued in December 2023. He has now been charged with three misdemeanors: two for possession and one for driving with an expired registration. Rucker was released on $10,000 bail.
